What can go in a skip
Most non‑hazardous household, garden and building waste can go straight into a standard skip.
- General household waste and bin bags
- Furniture (sofas, tables, wardrobes, beds)
- Wood, doors, skirting and timber offcuts
- Bricks, rubble, tiles, concrete and hardcore
- Soil, turf, branches, hedge cuttings and green waste
- Paper, cardboard, plastics and non‑hazardous packaging
Heavy materials like soil and hardcore may be restricted to smaller skips due to weight limits.
Some items are allowed but may need to be kept separate or may incur a surcharge (see below).
- Plasterboard (often bagged and separated)
- Mattresses
- Carpets and underlay
- Roofing felt
Please mention these when booking so we can advise on the best option and any extra costs.
Restricted items & chargeable extras
For legal and environmental reasons, the following must not be placed in a general skip:
- Asbestos or materials suspected to contain asbestos
- Fridges, freezers and other electrical appliances (WEEE)
- TVs, computer monitors and similar electronics
- Batteries of any kind (including car batteries)
- Paint, solvents, oils and liquid chemicals
- Gas bottles or cylinders (full or empty)
- Fuel, petrol or diesel containers
- Tyres
- Clinical or medical waste, sharps and syringes
- Fluorescent tubes and items containing mercury
These items require specialist disposal. We can point you in the right direction if you’re unsure.
Some items can be taken but usually attract an additional disposal charge:
- Mattresses
- Plasterboard (especially in larger quantities)
- Carpets and flooring
- Tyres (where accepted by prior agreement)
